The Roundup, Episode 1

Here’s a new feature we’ll start, well…now. It’s basically going to be a round-up of spoilers and news and tibits that I find around the web that aren’t big enough to warrant their own post, but are interesting to take note of. This means that what you read is probably a few days old by the time it makes it to The Roundup, but, hey. It’s a good refresher course.

Please, any new scoop from Grey’s Anatomy? The green-eyed monster has once again reared its ugly head on the show’s set, but this time it’s not salary drama or spin-off envy fueling the rancor: It’s those lucky bastards in dermatology! An upcoming episode will find some of our favorite residents wandering over to Seattle Grace’s never-before-seen dermatology department — and they will not be happy with what they find. Namely, the kind of posh work environment more consistent with a five-star spa than a hospital. [The Ausiello Files]

What about some Grey’s Anatomy love for the older kids at the hospital? Gladly. Chief Webber (James Pickens Jr.) is going to be whipping the staff into shape when the hospital starts to slip in the national rankings as one of the best teaching hospitals in the country. Seattle Grace not running smoothly? Maybe that’s because all the doctors have time for are “cat naps” in the on-call room. I gotta get me a j-o-b at Seattle Grace! [Watch with Kristin]

Thanks for the juicy Mer-Der housing update! Speaking of that, are Yang and Torres still going to be living together next season on Grey’s Anatomy? My Grey’s spies told me that prestrike there was going to be a little Three’s Company action going on with Hahn, Torres and Yang. Now that Callica has been established, will the lovebirds be moving in together? And who is the Jack Tripper in this interesting living arrangement? [Watch with Kristin]

The MerDer House

by admin ~ August 6th, 2008

Here’s some WAY exciting news from Kristin at E! Online. I’m not exactly sure how Shonda’s going to work it, but, to be honest, I could care less! Read on for this really exciting tidbit!

This just makes me giddy: Spies connected with the McDreamiest show around, Grey’s Anatomy, have just reported back with news of a very cool location change for the upcoming fifth season that may reveal a squeal-worthy detail about what’s ahead for Meredith and Derek. (Read only if you want to know!)

I’m told that the set for Seattle Grace Hospital has moved to another soundstage (previously occupied by The Shield) at Prospect Studios in Los Angeles. And back at the original soundstage, they have built…drumroll, please…

The McMansion!

OK, so it’s not really a “mansion,” per se, and I’m pretty sure Daddy Warbucks won’t be handing out Christmas treats. (And it probably looks nothing like the photo above.) But according to sources, the original Grey’s soundstage has been turned into a lovely home that will be occupied by one Dr. Derek Shepherd, aka Patrick Dempsey, and….hmmm, I wonder who his roommate will be?

You may remember that as of last May’s season finale, Derek had a beautiful plot of land that he offered up to Meredith for their dream house, and Meredith finally came ’round and offered up a beautiful floor plan (made out of candles). So something tells me Mer and Der will most definitely be shacking up in their dream house this season, and we’re gonna see plenty of their domestic…ummm…bliss? Tribulations? Fascinating home-improvement tips?

What ever it is, remember Grey’s boss Shonda Rhimes is jazzed about it, as she told us: “I’m really actually excited about [Meredith and Derek] being together because I feel like what I wanted you to leave with last season is Meredith standing in that field, having done this incredible thing, and the look on her face is a little bit like, ‘Oh my God, now I actually have to do this.’”

Get Excited

by admin ~ July 30th, 2008

Shonda Rhimes, the best person, like, EVER did an interview! With Kristin from E! You know it’s got to be good. It makes me LOADS more excited for season five. September 25, why must you be so far away?!

Grey’s Anatomy: What’s in Store for Season Five

Where is the story taking us next season?
I think a lot of the focus is going to be on the five core interns we’ve gotten to know—who aren’t interns anymore—George (T.R. Knight), Izzie (Katherine Heigl), Cristina (Sandra Oh), Alex (Justin Chambers) and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo). I really want to focus on them as they deal with the next step in their training. We’re also going to spend a lot of time with Mark (Eric Dane), Derek (Patrick Dempsey), Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Erica (Brooke Smith) and see their interactions.

Grey’s Anatomy Relationships: Meredith & Derek, the Original and Still the Best

On to MerDer, are you tired of talking about them?
I was until I got them together, and now it’s a whole new world. There’s a whole host of other problems that come with Meredith and Derek being together, and a whole host of other storylines, drama and excitement. So I’m really actually excited about them being together, because I feel like what I wanted you to leave with last season is Meredith standing in that field, having done this incredible thing, and the look on her face is a little bit like, “Oh my God, now I actually have to do this.” That’s important.

Is it more fun for you to write them together?
Absolutely. It was a real challenge to figure out how to get them together…how to get Meredith to the place where she was healthy enough to make this step with Derek. Now that she’s made the step with Derek, it’s really exciting to see what’s going to come next and how she’s going to deal with living with a boy, and all the things a man like Derek, who has been married and is a grown-up, might expect.

MerDer is living together? Are they living in Derek’s trailer or in Meredith’s house?
That you’ll have to watch and see.

Is Rose going to be a thorn in MerDer’s side?
I don’t necessarily think that she’s a troublemaker for their relationship in the beginning.

Grey’s Anatomy Relationships: Callie & Erica, the Newest Romance

Callie and Erica are going to be a couple next season, are they going to come out to the masses?
Eventually that’s going to play out. I feel like the important thing is that at the end of the season, Callie kissed a girl. We’re going to watch that part of it play out: Did she mean to kiss a girl? What does it mean that she’s kissed a girl? Is she excited about it? What does it mean for Erica? We don’t really know Erica’s side of the story yet in terms of what’s going on with the two of them. Then we’re going to watch the larger world of what happens when the two of them come out of the hospital, and what happens when Callie’s dad (Hector Elizondo) finds out. I think it’s going to be really interesting because I think it’s very different to go from being 19 and declare this, and be a grown woman and declare this, when your family’s already thought something else.

Will this season be a journey for them to discover their sexuality?
They are definitely on a journey, and it’s going to be a really interesting one. It’s funny, the writers are really excited about it, and we spend a lot of hours talking about how we’re going to do it, and what we’re going to do, and what might the problems be, and the emotional aspects of it, and the fun that we can have with it.

It seems like they have great onscreen chemistry. Was that a driving force in getting them together?
There is chemistry there, but also both actresses are so game; they’re so willing to do something. Sara is such a fabulously comedic actress and has so much to give, and post-George I felt like she was searching for something. Callie and Erica together seem to have a lot of chemistry and dynamic. We really did start them out as being friends and it felt like there was something more there with them; the same kind of chemistry that I saw between Cristina and Burke (Isaiah Washington) before Christina and Burke got together.

Grey’s Anatomy Relationships: Alex & Izzie, Heating Up?

We last saw Alex and Izzie getting hot and steamy, in a depressing sort of way. What’s next for them?
I think you’re going to see a lot of really interesting sparks between the two of them.

Is there any truth to that rumor about Izzie having a brain tumor this season?
No.

Grey’s Anatomy: Meet the New Kidd

Kevin McKidd has a built-in McName. What’s he going to be doing on the show?
He’s going to be playing Owen Hunt, who is a military doctor that comes to the hospital on leave.

He just happens to show up to a hospital where everyone falls for each other? Hmmm…Who is he going for?
I think Cristina might find him fairly interesting.

A Quick Update

I just got a quick update on Grey’s Anatomy from one of their publicists. Apparently, they are still shooting the two-hour season premiere, so we’re a ways off from getting any new information (read: promos, photos, anything new). My guess? Expect all that kind of stuff sometime late next month. Although I’m hoping that the title will be released soon.

Help, Please

This was something I never ever ever wanted to have to do, but, well, desperate times call for desperate measures. Here’s the deal:

I recently purchased a new computer for the purpose of being able to run my network of sites on a more stable and better piece of machinery. The only problem is that I switched from Windows XP to Mac, which are two completely different platforms. And my original programs that I used for the sites do not work on my new computer (notice how the home page and the explore site have both gone very un-updated for the past month?). And while I do not regret buying this new computer at all, as it does work so much better than my previous one, I did not realize how much the software I need to continue running the site was going to cost me. And the crunch is on, with school starting soon and the new season of Grey’s Anatomy starting two months from today. Any and all donations will go towards buying the three Adobe programs Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and possibly Flash, all of which are/will be used to edit and keep the site running. Just so you know all the details, Dreamweaver is used to edit the physical pages of the site. Photoshop is to create all the awesome pictures, and Flash is used to…well, create Flash (something I want to incorporate more into future versions of the site).

Anything is welcome and appreciated beyond your knowledge. I do all of this for you guys, and I try to never ask for anything in return, but this time the software just costs so much. THANK YOU SO MUCH to anyone that helps. You have no idea how much I appreciate it. To donate, just click on any of the “Donate” buttons on Surf, Covering, or Discuss/The Docks.

OK, I Feel Better Now

by admin ~ July 20th, 2008

Loading ... Loading ...

I JUST saw this article on TVGuide.com, which completely makes my day and I feel so much better about this Denny returning business. Way better. Read it:

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is on his way back to Grey’s Anatomy… but why, and how?

JDM originally played Izzie’s ill-fated patient/sweetheart, yet ultimately saw that run come to an end when Denny’s ticker timed out.

Morgan would later reprise his role for an episode in which a waterlogged Mer flirted with death, but was urged by Dead Denny and Dead Kyle Chandler to choose life.

So what now? Is Grey’s going to kill off Izzie, as has been rumored by one online site, and Denny will resurface to escort his love to The Other Side? In a word, no. For starters, at least one inside source assures me that there is no plan to off Izzie as a means of punishing outspoken cast member Katherine Heigl. Besides, Morgan has already filmed his scenes, which are to air in the season premiere, so the timing is too soon to even accommodate any such tearjerker.

My take? Denny will appear to Izzie in a dream, as a sort of “epiphany” to the sometimes aimless doc to get her ish together. How and why would you bring him back for the season opener?

I think those TVGuiders may be right, and Denny will appear to Izzie in a dream/vision…but not a deathbed vision. Nevertheless, I’m relieved.

I Still Don’t Want to Believe It.

by admin ~ July 18th, 2008

Oye. Kristin over at E! Online has apparently confirmed that JDM is returning to Grey’s next season. I’m sorry, I love you Shonda, but this just totally seems to be a step in the really wrong direction. Here’s what Kristin has to say:

Denny lives! Or, OK, probably not, but the ABC rep for Grey’s Anatomy just confirmed to us that Jeffrey Dean Morgan, known affectionately ‘round here as Dr. Sexy Pants, will return to Seattle Grace in the coming season.

When? How? Why?

ABC isn’t commenting further, but I have it on good authority that Us Weekly’s story of a planned brain tumor for Katherine Heigl’s character, Izzie, was indeed the plan for this season, and in that plan, Izzie was to see “visions” of Denny. (And we can’t forget that E! Online’s own Marc Malkin first broke the story that Shonda Rhimes was considering doing something bad to Izzie this year.)

But here is the big ol’ hitch: Shonda is pretty darn likely to change that storyline plan, now that the word is out. (In case you hadn’t heard, she’s not so down with the spoilers.) That’s precisely what happened a few seasons back, when some koo-koo-bird chick who covers TV at E! reported that Sandra Oh’s character, Cristina, was to have a lesbian storyline. (Storyline = totally scrapped.)

Still, JDM’s casting confirmation lends further credence to the notion that the brain tumor could still happen. Unless another cast member is “crossing over”—remember Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey saw Denny when she fell in the water and nearly died.

I Refuse to Believe It

by admin ~ July 17th, 2008

I absolutely refuse to believe this until I find some kind of official document SOMEWHERE stating it (and even then I may still be in denial), but, as this is gaining momentum, I felt it was only appropriate to post it here in case it does (shudder, shudder) come true.

According to Us Weekly (and now apparently the Hollywood Reporter), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (you know, Denny? The one that died two seasons ago?) is returning to Grey’s Anatomy. Returning to Grey’s Anatomy. I don’t know why. I don’t know how. But apparently some ABC spokesperson confirmed it. However, I have yet to see any proof…anywhere.

As much as everyone loved Denny, bringing him back would just totally destroy the direction the show was heading in season four’s masterpiece finale. Our e-mails are into ABC to either confirm or deny JDM’s return, and we’ll let you know what they say if and when we get a response.

UPDATE: Still no response from ABC yet, but I have been thinking more about possibly scenarios as to why Denny may return. If it is confined to a flashback, I’ll be OK with it, but if it is another Meredith/ferryboat arc-type reoccurance (or, God forbid, those rumors floating around that Izzie will see him in “visions”), then I’d rather him not return. Please, Shonda, I love you to death, but don’t make me leap THAT far!

No ‘Best Drama’ Here

by admin ~ July 17th, 2008

The official Emmy nominations were released today, and, unsurprisingly, Grey’s Anatomy was NOT nominated for Best Drama. (According to some sources, the show submitted “Freedom - Part One” for consideration. Who the hell made THAT decision?! If they had chosen “Freedom - Part Two” they would have certainly been nominated.) And Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey were yet again snubbed (what will it take to get these two at least nominated?!) However, those pesky Emmy people did show some love to Sandra Oh, Chandra Wilson, and Diahann Carroll, all of whom got nominated for their performances. Winners will be announced September 21.

It’s Official! (Heigl + More)

by admin ~ July 16th, 2008

Gotta love these summer press tours the networks put on. Today was ABC’s press tour day, and Grey’s Anatomy was officially set to premiere on Thursday, September 25 from 9:00 to 11:00 pm EST. This isn’t anything we didn’t already know, but, it’s nice to have it confirmed. Especially the two-hour part. And, apparently there were rumors floating around about Katherine Heigl being killed off of Grey’s? Uh, YAH RIGHT. That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard, and I can’t believe anyone ever believed. Nevertheless, for those believers, network head Steve McPhearson has put those rumors to rest, saying that Katie/Izzie has an amazing storyline in store next season - birthed from Shonda’s mind, no less - that is integral to, apparently, everything happening this season. (I’m hoping for WAY more Alex/Izzie make-out sessions. Anyone with me?) And, apparently the whole ordeal has been way blown out of proportion by the press (no shock there), according to both McPhearson and Eric Dane.
